A Note to Women in Business

The world is a better and stronger place when women hold leadership roles – I’m a firm believer in this. Today, I want to speak to women still finding their place in the business world. I was once in your shoes, and this is what I wish my female mentors had told me.
Women have an innate superpower: empathy. While this trait has been painted as a weakness, it’s one of our most powerful attributes. Empathy includes reading the room, understanding employees’ hardships, and envisioning the experiences of your higher-ups – both good and bad. Sharing that emotional experience with someone allows us to bond and form connections that create foundational trust and an efficient work ethic.
On the other end of the spectrum, let’s discuss the importance of, pardon my French, “being a bitch.” It’s been said before, but I’ll say it again: when a man knows what he wants and is firm in his convictions, he’s a leader; when a woman behaves similarly, she’s a “bitch”. Now, remember that it likely means you’re getting things done!
Of course, it’s essential to be receptive to feedback and lead with kindness. However, remember that being intimidating to men shouldn’t result in making yourself smaller. Those meant to be around you professionally will either fit, adapt, or grow – let them.
I guess you could say my main advice for women in business is to be an empathetic bitch. Any questions? No? Until next time…
Xx
