Looking Back on a Year of Purpose

As the year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on moments – moments that reminded me why philanthropy matters and why staying close to the people and communities we serve is so important. This year was filled with powerful reminders of resilience, compassion, and what’s possible when we show up for one another.

We began the year responding to the devastating California wildfires, partnering with PXG and Team Rubicon to support communities facing unimaginable loss. Watching families lose homes, livelihoods, and a sense of security in a matter of days was heartbreaking, but it also underscored the importance of swift, coordinated action in moments of crisis.

In March, Bob and I had the opportunity to attend Make-A-Wish Arizona’s 2025 Wish Ball featuring the theme “Art of Wishes,” a milestone celebration marking 45 years of granting wishes for children with critical illnesses. Having partnered with Make-A-Wish Arizona for more than 12 yearsthe evening felt especially meaningful – a reflection of the shared belief that hope can be life-changing. It was deeply humbling to accept the Lifetime Impact Award from Make-A-Wish Arizona and celebrate alongside so many dedicated supporters as a reminder of what’s possible when a community rallies around families in need.

One of the most meaningful traditions for me each year is awarding the Renee Parsons Girls Leadership and Excellence Awards to two outstanding young women who grew up as “Club Kids” at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley. Learning about the journeys and aspirations of young women like Sophia and Starletta (this year’s scholarship recipients) is incredibly powerful. Supporting their education – and believing in their potential – is a reminder that sometimes impact begins with trust, encouragement, and the simple act of saying, I see you, and I believe in what you can become.

As the year continued, I was deeply moved by my visit to the Child Crisis Arizona Center for Child and Family Wellness. Touring the space with CEO, Torrie Taj, and seeing a building intentionally designed to support both families in crisis and the staff who care for them was inspiring. Ending the visit in a joyful music class – created in partnership with Rosie’s House – and filled with laughter, song, and connection was a beautiful reminder that healing often begins in the smallest, most human moments.

Fall also brought a lighter, celebratory gathering with Birdies, Bubbles & Brunch, an event blending golf, style, and philanthropy in support of First Tee – Phoenix. Watching women come together to uplift one another while supporting young people through mentorship, confidence-building, and life skills was especially meaningful this year as I also had the honor of joining the First Tee Board of Directors – a role that deepened my appreciation for the organization’s impact nationwide.

We closed the year with a little mischief and a lot of gratitude – surprising local animal welfare leaders with meaningful gifts to support their lifesaving work. Celebrating these animal welfare organizations – both large and small – was a fitting way to end a year defined by compassion in action. From keeping pets with the families who love them to expanding access to affordable care, these organizations are strengthening our community every day.

Of course, this year’s story doesn’t end with these moments alone. Through The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, we were proud to support incredible partners working across the spaces of Military Veterans & First Responders, Youth & Education, Health & Home, and the American Dream. Each partnership represents a shared belief: that lasting change happens when we listen closely, invest in people and commit for the long haul. In the months ahead, I look forward to highlighting these partnerships and sharing more of the stories behind the work.

As I look back on 2025, I’m filled with gratitude – for the leaders who open their doors, the families who trust us with their stories, and the communities who remind me that hope is something we build together. This year reaffirmed what I know to be true: philanthropy isn’t about looking back at what we’ve done – it’s about staying present for what’s still ahead.
