Philanthropy Focus – Camp OUTDoors

Camp OUTdoors is a cornerstone of the one·n·ten magic that helps build young peoples’ self-esteem and healthy life skills.

Happy Pride Month!

When Bob and I started our Foundation just over 10 years ago, we had one core value in mind. We believe that all people regardless of race, religion, roots, economic status, sexual orientation, or gender identity are of equal value and deserve access to quality healthcare, education, and a safe place to call home.  This is the value that drives our continued, strategic support of LGBTQIA+-focused organizations and is why I’d like to celebrate Pride Month by uplifting a most-beloved organization, one·n·ten, and their Camp OUTdoors program.

one·n·ten, quite simply, is helping to create a world where LGBTQIA+ youth are empowered, supported, and embraced for who they are – a mission that is essential for our community to thrive. LGBTQIA+ youth, ages 11-24 find a safe space at one n ten where they can access a host of invaluable programs from housing navigation and life skills classes to crisis intervention and leadership development opportunities. They even offer a safe space to parents, teachers, counselors, and other trusted adults to help them best support LGBTQIA+ youth in their lives. Perhaps the most beautiful way through which one·n·ten offers its services, is fun! Which brings me to Camp OUTdoors…

Young people pose in a warm embrace

Camp OUTdoors is an annual opportunity for LGBTQIA+ youth to unplug from technology and social media, connect face-to-face with their peers, and have a blast in a safe environment. Camp OUTdoors is a cornerstone of the one·n·ten magic that helps build young peoples’ self-esteem and healthy life skills – all done through 50+ activities and workshops like zip-lining, a 250 person drum circle, a variety show and beyond. Whenever I see photos from Camp my heart soars, the joy on the campers’ faces is undeniable!

Be sure to visit one·n·ten’s Instagram to experience this joy for yourself.

And with summer upon us, remember to have fun, be safe, and most importantly seek those spaces where you can fully be yourself.

Xx
