Thanksgiving is knocking on our doors, and we are in full preparation mode here at the Parsons household. It’s not just about the food for me; it’s about the whole experience. So, let me take you through how I prepare for the most heartwarming holiday of the year.

At the Table Together

When entertaining, I always opt for one long table if possible. There’s something magical about everyone gathered in one place, sharing stories and laughter. It’s an intimate setting that makes Thanksgiving more than just a meal.

Drawing Inspiration from Nature

When setting the table, I draw inspiration from the season itself – think warm, earthy tones, natural textures, and rustic centerpieces with pumpkins and gourds. I love to incorporate a mix of flowers in hues of yellow, orange, and red.  It’s about bringing the beauty of autumn to the table and making it a reflection of the season’s charm.

Al Fresco Magic

As someone who loves the outdoors, why not enjoy the cooler weather during Thanksgiving? Picture this: a long table adorned with candles and cozy blankets, creating a setting that’s both warm and enchanting.

Cheers to Thanksgiving

For me, a curated cocktail menu is as important as the meal. Each drink should complement the flavors on the table and elevate the whole experience. It’s my way of adding a touch of sophistication to our celebration. This year, I am excited to feature what I am calling the Thanksgiving Highball. See the recipe below:

Thanksgiving Highball

Ingredients
1.5 oz Don Julio 1942 (or an Añejo of your choice!)
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
1 Dash Black Walnut Bitters
1 Dash Cardamom Bitters
Club Soda
Orange Twist

Method
Add tequila and bitters into a mixing glass, mix with ice.
Strain into a highball glass over ice.
Top with club soda.
Add orange twist.

Hors d’oeuvres Spread

To keep everyone from getting too hungry before the big meal, I set up an hors d’oeuvres station. I like to include artisan cheeses, antipasto, charcuterie, and classic Thanksgiving favorites like deviled eggs. Small bites that make the wait for the Thanksgivingspread totally worthwhile. Pro tip: label the food you are serving so guests know exactly what they are enjoying.

Picture-Perfect Moments

With the whole family gathered, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to get photos! It is always so difficult to get everyone together in one spot. Sometimes, the holidays are the only time we see everyone together. Take advantage of this opportunity and get some photos you’ll cherish forever. No photographer? No problem. Set up your phone and use the self-timer function to get a group photo.

Timeless Classics

When it comes to the food, tradition is close to my heart. So, for the main course, it’s a classic spread – juicy roast turkey, flavorful stuffing, and creamy mashed potatoes. These nostalgic foods, to me, are part of what makes the holiday so special.

I am looking forward to hosting this holiday and most importantly, spending quality time with my family. I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving!
